One of our fourth grade parents, Terri Menninga, has the interesting hobby of tagging butterflies. She became aware of a special project involving caterpillars and the Space Shuttle/Space Station. We applied to participate in this project. However, there were over 800 schools who applied and there were only 20 schools who could receive the special supplies!
We were not one of the 20 schools to receive the special kits, but we were able to receive 6 monarch caterpillars and a food supply. We then had to construct a "home" for each group of 3 caterpillars.
Each school has the opportunity to ask a question to investigate. We will be trying to see which caterpillars grow the fastest-- those on earth or those in space. What do YOU think will happen?
Please use the links provided and photos of our caterpillars to observe and discover the wonderful plan God has for caterpillars!
Please look at the caterpillars in space link to see 3 butterflies on the space station. It's AMAZING!! (They have Painted Lady butterflies, but we were given monarchs so there are some differences in how they pupate and how they look.)
