Pella Christian Grade School is pleased to announce the start of a Spanish immersion program beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. We will begin the program with a kindergarten/1st grade combined classroom and add a Spanish immersion section to each grade in subsequent years until the Spanish immersion program is fully developed which will occur when the first group of students is in sixth grade. The Board of Trustees of Pella Christian believes that in addition to academic and lingual benefits, Spanish immersion is an excellent way to increase the global awareness of our students while promoting the mission of the school, which is to "challenge students to develop their individual, God-given gifts for a life of service in God's kingdom."
This decision comes after several months of study, discussion at committee and board room levels, and a community meeting in early February. The surveys collected after the community meeting indicated sufficient interest to proceed with Spanish immersion. The decision to implement the program during the 2012-13 school year was based on the desire to adequately prepare for the details of initiating this exciting opportunity including identifying the most highly qualified teacher candidates. With Board approval to proceed, a Spanish Immersion Committee has been tasked with working out the details and delegating responsibilities to specific committees.
